My Cantonese is good enough to get along with my grandparents. I sort of somewhat understand the grammar structure and tones. Now, if I were to try to learn Mandarin, how long and easy will it be?
Also, the only references I have, is the Internet (books don’t tell you how to pronounce the tones), and one of my friends at school, who is a native Mandarin speaker.
Some website links would be appreciated!
@Nathan, You’re so dumb. They are merely different dialects.
If you do well with the Cantonese tones, you should be fine with the Mandarin tones.
If you are still studying Cantonese, you may want to hold off on learning Mandarin for a little longer. The languages are similar enough to where you may get them confused if you don’t have a firm grasp on either.

I don’t speak either but I’ve heard they’re nothing alike.
